Microsoft and Apple Give Up OpenAI Board Seats amid Regulatory Concerns

In a major move, tech giants Microsoft Corporation and Apple Inc have reportedly decided to relinquish their board seats from the very popular artificial intelligence firm OpenAI citing some regulatory concerns. As reported by Bloomberg earlier today, July 10, Microsoft sent a letter to OpenAI announcing its withdrawal from the board, said an anonymous source familiar with the matter.

Interestingly, this withdrawal from the board seat comes just a year and a half after Microsoft announced its staggering $13 billion investment in OpenAI last year in April 2023. In its memo to OpenAI, the software giant reportedly mentioned:

“Over the past eight months we have witnessed significant progress from the newly formed board and are confident in the company’s direction. We no longer believe our limited role as an observer is necessary.”
